GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's soccer carried over their success from yesterday, defeating Multnomah 2-0 Monday afternoon.
Both teams entered the half with zero points on the board, though the Argos (2-0, 2-0) had dominated the Lions (0-5, 0-2) in both possession and total shots. That all changed in the 59
th minute, when
Sebastian Bartos crossed it into
Kevin Vasquez-Hernandez, who finished with a beautiful header.
Kolby Hayes put the game away for good in the 86
th minute with a goal of his own.
"In the first half we were content with what we were being given," interim head coach
Danny Burstein said. "We needed to dictate the play a little bit more and find another gear and change the pace. Similar to what we needed to do yesterday. We came out a little slow in the first half. It was just a matter of finding the space and playing it in there and not being content with what we were being given. We needed to play our game, and we were much better at that in the second half."
The Argos outshot the Lions 21-3 throughout the game, ten of which were on goal.
George Almeida and
Kolby Hayes both led the Argos in shot on goal attempts with three apiece.
"It was a tough game, Burstein said. "It was more labor-intensive. We had to grind it out, which kind of was expected given that it was the second game in two days and we haven't really had anything else so we're still very much finding our game conditioning."
The Argos will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Eastern Oregon to take on the Mountaineers. The two foes will face off at 2:30 MTN time both Sunday and Monday.
"The guys are excited and the energy is good," Burstein said. "We're happy to get these games in, happy to be walking away 2-0. We'll just get after it the next game that comes our way."
