Argos Fall to Warriors on Second Day of Doubleheader

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team fell to Corban in both home games Saturday afternoon. The Argos lost the first game 6-4 and the second game 13-5.

The Argos had a close on in the first game of the day. With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Argos got two quick outs. Unfortunately the team committed three errors after that, causing four runs to cross the plate for the Warriors.

After getting the final out, the Argos nearly got the runs back. The Argos had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but could only get one run to score.

"We had the game until the last inning," head coach Joey Egan said. "The girls were making plays, they were selling out, they were having good plate approaches. We left a lot of runners on base still. There were plenty of opportunities for us to score that we didn't convert on."

Khalyn Hageness toed the rubber for the Argos, lasting seven innings. She allowed eight hits and six runs while striking out four and walking one batter. Ashlee Anderson and Peyton Elliot both mustered multiple hits for the Argos. McKenna Montgomery also managed to hit a home run for the squad.

The Argos struggled to get their offense moving in the second game, though the team did manage to hit two home runs; Sarah Bury hit one in the third inning while Taylor Mathews hit one in the fifth.

The Argos recorded eight hits during the second game, led by Alivia Atlee and Mathews, who both recorded two. KJ Schweikert got the start at the mound. She struck out two batters in five innings.

"It's frustrating because I know that their effort and their want is there," Egan said. "To not be able to have that glory at the end is hard. We're trying to focus on the small successes instead of the bigger picture. Our pitchers threw great. They pitched well enough to win."

The Argos will hit the road next week with a pair of double-headers against Southern Oregon.
