ASHLAND, Ore. – The University of Providence softball team fell in both road games to the #1 overall Southern Oregon Raiders on Friday.
The Argos (2-14, 2-10) lost the first game 9-0. The Raiders (28-2, 13-1) won the second game 18-1.
The Raiders got moving early in the first game when Lauren Quirke hit a two-run shot over right field. The Argos could never get over the hump, allowing runs in each inning for the rest of the game. Peyton Elliot led the way for the Argos at the plate, going two for two at the plate with two singles.
"They homered early and we never recovered," head coach
Joey Egan said. "They're obviously a great team, but we didn't give them our best shot today."
In the second game, the Raiders managed to hit a total of 18 runs. The Argos kept it within reach until allowing eight runs in the third inning. Elliot again led the Argos in hits, going two for three from the plate.
Azia Umphrey managed to hit an RBI double in the fifth inning to bring
Sarah Bury home.
"Today is behind us," Egan said. "We didn't give them our best shot tomorrow. We have to be able to move on and prepare the way we know we can and give them a better look tomorrow."
The two teams will meet again tomorrow. The first game will start at 12 p.m., with the second game beginning at 2 p.m.
