GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field team competed in their final regular season event of the year on Saturday during the Trudnowski Open at Carroll College.
"Our kids competed very well," head coach
Tony Arntson said. "In two weeks we made some big improvements. I was very proud of our young kids. We went into a little bigger venue, there were six teams there. I thought they competed outstanding."
Dawson Fowler was the headliner for the day, breaking the school record in the long jump with a score of 21'5.5 meters. He finished second in the event. Fowler also won the triple-jump with a mark of 44'9.5. Both Fowler and
Justin Kabbenhoft finished second in the high jump with a 6'0.75.
McKenzie Clark also had a stellar day for the Argos winning the javelin throw and finishing just a bit short of qualifying for Nationals with a mark of 39.09.
"She was about four inches off last time and this time she was off by a half an inch," Arntson said. "She had a great throw there."
Jillian Sanchez also had a solid outing, finishing second in both the discus and the shot put with marks of 38.75 meters and 11.51 meters respectively.
Kaitlyn Gilbert finished third in long jump with a mark of 4.52 meters.

"He competed in six events today," Arntson said. "I thought he had a great overall performance today. I'm very happy with him."
Joe McMillan also had a stellar day, winning the pole vault with a mark of 3.97 meters.
This was the last regular season meet for the Argos; they'll compete in the Frontier Conference Championship next weekend.
"The kids have been doing incredible," Arntson said. "This is the first couple of times they have competed in a year and a half and you wouldn't know it. I think we've set ourselves up very well. We got another week until the conference championship. Hopefully we make that kind of stride again."
