Hobbs championship leads Argo Wrestling at Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. - Sawyer Hobbs took first in the 184-pound weight class at the Spokane Open to lead the University of Providence men Sunday.  

Hobbs, ranked 14th in the NAIA at 184, defeated teammate No. 21 Alan Badley after Badley withdrew in the championship match due to injury. Hobbs won his other three matches all by fall and none lasting past the second round, including a pin over Linfield University's (Ore.) Alfonso Tapia in just 36 seconds.  

In all, Providence, ranked 9th in the NAIA, had 11 wrestlers place in the top five at Spokane. In addition to Badley's 2nd place finish, Liam Swanson, ranked 18th, was second at 197, losing to Michael Gasper from Clackamas Community College in extra time, 3-1. Jacob Anderson, also at 197, finished in fifth. Ehtan DeRoche was 4th at 285. DeRoche is 24th in the country.  

Deven Altenburg-Lasher defeated Linfield's by a 3-2 decision at 125 to place 5th, Eli Abercrombie fought back through the consolation bracket to take third at 141, Dante Reviglio was 5th in the same weight class. Jalen Vladic fell in the championship at 149 to take second. At 157, Dougie Swanson took 4th while Bridger Hall (165) and Abel Nava (174) took 3rd in their respective weight classes.  

Providence is off for two weeks before hosting the annual Battle of the Rockies duals and tournament Dec. 2nd and Dec. 3rd at the McLaughlin Center.
