GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field team is preparing for their final meet of the indoor season tomorrow when they travel to Pocatello, Idaho for the Mountain State Games, hosted by Idaho State.
This meet will feature the most teams the Argos have competed against all season.
"It's bigger than the last one," head coach
Tony Arntson said. "We'll see a couple Pac-12 schools. Rocky, Carroll and Tech will be there so we'll still have a majority of our Frontier track programs there. It's good to be able to see those guys too."
The coaching staff believes the team had their most productive practice week of the season this past week. The team spent a majority time outside and only had moderate wind to deal with. Arntson believes the pole vaulters in particular benefited the most from the outdoor training.
"We've been able to get outside a little bit and that's been good," Arntson said. "We've gotten on the pole more this week than we have all season. I know the pole vaulters are very excited about it."
Arntson is hoping that the preparation that the team had all season will pay off in this final meet. On top of the pole vaulters, he is excited to see the results of
Justin Krabbenhoft, who will attempt the heptathlon for the first time in his career and
Allyson Conner who has a chance to become a National Qualifier in the weight throw.
"Justin is going to take a shot at the heptathlon," Arntson said. "I think it'll be a little bit of an eye-opener for him but he's excited about it. I'm excited for him. Throw-wise, Allyson is one we're hoping has a chance to break in there and get a National Qualifier. Jillian and Rico just keep improving. I'm hoping they have some big throws as they prepare for the National Championships."
The meet will kick off at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.
