Argos Prepared for Series of Conference Duals

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's wrestling team will travel to Arizona for a series of conference duals this weekend.

The Argos (3-4), who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA National Poll, will take on Vanguard at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, followed by a dual against #19 Embry-Riddle at 7:00 p.m. The squad will conclude the trip on Saturday with a dual against Arizona Christian.

"It's great to see the kids in our conference," head coach Steve Komac said. "The Cascade Collegiate Conference has got some miles inbetween us. We don't get to drive two or three hours to a local school. We have to travel some distance so we don't see them as much. We definitely appreciate the opportunities when they come."

The team is coming off a successful weekend at the Tyler Plummer Classic in Dickinson N.D., where four Argos won their weight classes and a total of 11 wrestlers placed at the event. Payton Hume, the winner of the 174-lb. tournament, was named the CCC Wrestler of the Week for his performance.

"We won a lot of matches," Komac said. "Everyone won a good quality match. We looked like we were excited to wrestle that day and we wrestled hard. Mostly we've been focusing on working extremely hard and finding specific places to improve. We saw a lot of those things come out in our performance, so that feels good."

The team will need that continued focus during these upcoming duals. With the CCC conference Tournament two weeks away, the duals will give the Argos a chance to both improve their position within the conference and get a feel for some of the opponents.

"The Cascade Conference is tough," Komac said. "It's one of the best conferences in the NAIA. The individual matches in these duals are going to consist of a lot of good competitors. There's going to be lots of tough matchups. We're just focusing on being the best version of ourselves and competing hard."
