GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball team will hit the road this week for a pair of road games. The Argos (11-14, 2-10) will travel to Dillon to take on Montana Western on Thursday before taking on Montana Tech in Butte on Saturday.
The team has had two days of practice this week. The emphasis has been rebounding, which in the coaching staff's eyes has been the biggest problem the team has had as of late.
"After watching film, if we had just blocked out and rebounded better we would have given ourselves a better chance," head coach
Steve Keller said. "That's been our biggest problem. We've spent some time in practice working on that. That's been our priority."
The Argos, who are currently on a six-game losing streak, haven't gotten many breaks this season. The team has been injured throughout a majority of the conference season, and last week played without three starters. The team knows they are still dangerous, but will have to regroup quickly on the road with only three games remaining in the regular season.
"We have to go to Dillon to get a win," Keller said. "We have to take one game at a time. We'll see if we can get one there. Then we'll head to Tech. They play Carroll on Thursday for the top spot in the league. We're just trying to prepare ourselves to get ready for the tournament. That's what we're trying to do right now."
The Argos will start their trip against the Bulldogs (15-12, 4-8). The Bulldogs attempt the most three-pointers of any team in the Frontier Conference, and lead the conference in three-point percentage at 38.5%.
"We have to limit their three-point shooting," Keller said. "They are the best three-point shooting team in the league. They also have some good inside guys. They're a handful. They're athletic and they can shoot. It's going to be a tough game."
The Argos will then head to Butte to take on the Orediggers (22-5, 11-1), who is ranked 14
th in the latest NAIA National Poll. The Orediggers will take on Carroll College Thursday night, with the winner becoming the top seed in the league.
"Tech has everybody back," Keller said. "They're big, strong, physical and athletic. We just have to shoot the ball better than we have been. We haven't been shooting the ball very well."
The game against the Bulldogs will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.
