JAMESTOWN, N.D. – For the second year in a row Ivy Navarro of the University of Providence women's wrestling team finished as the National Runner-Up in the 101 lb. weight class.

After defeating #3 Ester Walker (Midland) in the semifinals 3-0, Navarro matched up with Nina Pham (Wayland Baptist) in a rematch of last year's final match. After trailing 4-1 entering the second period, Pham defeated Navarro 12-1 to be crowned champion.

"I was extremely happy with Ivy," head coach Matt Atwood said. "Last year we saw the name and the pressure and the atmosphere got to us. We were flat-footed and watched ourself get taken down. This year she had a smile on her face. She went to battle and had fun. Nina is an amazing wrestler and Ivy wrestled extremely well. The score didn't quite do us justice either. We were battling with her. She wrestled well. I'm really happy with Ivy."

Finishing as the National Runner-Up wraps up a dominant season for Navarro, who was the top-ranked 101-lb. wrestler for the majority of the season. Navarro finished the season with a record of 19-3, winning the Battle of the Rockies and the Grandview Open.

Sadie Antoque (155 lbs.), Ashley Gooman (116 lbs.) and Paige Respicio (136 lbs.) all came in fourth place in their respective weight classes. Ivy's sister Ira Navarro finished 6th in the 101 lb. weight class.

"The fact that we lost all our final matches today kind of sucks but it wasn't from lack of effort," Atwood said. "They were in some battles today. They wrestled really well. We were up at one point in every single finals match today so they were close. I'm very proud of their effort today. All four of them are coming back next year and are capable of being National Champs."

The Argos finish the tournament with a total of five All-Americans, the most the team has had in program history. The team built upon the two Navarro sisters earning All-American honors last season.

"It's really cool to have five All-Americans," Atwood said. "It's awesome. We have come a long way in a short amount of time. We still have a lot of room to grow which is the most exciting part."

As a team the Argos retained their 7th place spot from yesterday, finishing with a total of 116 points. They were one of four Cascade Collegiate Conference teams that finished in the Top 10 – Southern Oregon finished 2nd (158.5 points), Menlo, who won the conference championship two weeks ago, finished 3rd (157 points) while Eastern Oregon finished 10th (75.5 points). Campbellsville won the NAIA National Championship with 189 points.

The tournament wraps up the season for the Argos, who impressed the coaching staff with their constant growth throughout the season.

"The wrestling season is extremely long," Atwood said. "We started wrestling back in August. It's a grind. It's not easy. The girls come in every day at 6:30 in the morning. They're grinding every day. They're having to cut weight, having to get extra workouts in. It's not an easy sport. For these girls to peak at this tournament, it's really special. I couldn't be happier with them. The girls had smiles on their faces all weekend. I thought they wrestled hard all year. They grew so much over the course of the season. I'm so proud of each and every one of them."
