VANCOUVER, B.C. – The University of Providence softball team fell in the final doubleheader in their series against British Columbia. The Argos (0-8) fell to the Thunderbirds (5-5, 4-2) 7-5 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game.
"Our offense was a lot better than yesterday," head coach
Joey Egan said. "We still need to be more consistent in certain areas. We definitely improved today which was good to see but we still have some work to do."
The Thunderbirds got on the board first in the early game, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Argos responded in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs of their own to take a 5-4 lead. The Thunderbirds got back on top in the bottom of the sixth innings with three runs of their own to secure the 7-5 lead.
The Argos scored first in the second game, when
Macy Mangold stole home on an errant pitch. Ryan Palmer stole home again in the second inning to give the Argos a 2-0 lead. The Thunderbirds stormed back however, scoring six runs over the final three innings to take a 6-2 lead.
Taylor Mathews and
McKenna Montgomery led the team with two RBIs on the day, while
Jaelena Trujillo brought home one runner. Mathews and Trujillo both recorded two hits for the squad.
The Argos will return to the field on March 11 with a series against #5 Southern Oregon in Great Falls, Mont.
