KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The University of Providence softball team fell to #2 Oregon Tech in both games of their doubleheader on Friday. The Owls (36-7, 21-2) defeated the Argos (2-28, 1-21) 10-2 in the first game and 11-1 in the second game.
"We never really got settled in today," head coach
Joey Egan said. "Credit to the Owls they're a good team. We just never got comfortable out there. If we want to find success tomorrow we're going to have relax and just play."
Down 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning in the first game,
Karlie David tripled to center field to bring
Macy Mangold home. David later scored on an errant throw to cut the deficit to one.
However the Owls responded in dominant fashion, scoring six runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch to 9-2. After holding the Argos in the top of the fifth, the Owls scored one more run to end the game.
McKenzie Staats got things started for the Argos in the second game, bringing home
Taylor Mathews off a single to right field to get the squad on the board first. However the Owls were still hot, scoring five runs in the first inning and three each in the next two innings to command a double-digit lead.
The Argos managed five hits between the two games, with David and
Ryen Palmer getting one each in the first game and Mathews, Staats and
Alivia Atlee recording one in the second game.
The two teams will conclude their weekend series tomorrow with another doubleheader. The first game will begin at 12:00 p.m. MTN in Klamath Falls.
