HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field concluded their  meet before the Frontier Conference Championships at the Trudnowski Open on Friday.

The Argos men's team finished with 116 points on the day good for a second place finish. They trailed the host school Carroll College, who finished with 220 points. The women's team finished in third place with 92 points, trailing only Carroll (256 points) and Montana State-Billings (106 points).

"It was a good solid day," head coach Tony Arntson said. "Obviously the weather was a little bit hampering. With the conditions being the way they were I thought our kids competed pretty darn well."

Jillian Sanchez had her usual dominant performance, winning the hammer throw with a mark of 50.68 meters, finishing second in the discus with a throw of 38.81 meters and finishing third in the shot put at 12.03 meters. The Argos stole the top three spots in the women's hammer throw as Allyson Connor finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.48 meters and Kathryn Evans finished third at 40.79 meters.

Calla Haldorson was the lone competitor to outperform Sanchez in the discus, winning the event with a throw of 39.9 meters. McKenzie Clark also won her event for the Argos, winning the javelin with a throw of 35.15 meters.

"Calla did so well in the discus," Arntson said. "She's starting to come along. We're looking for big things out of her and I'm happy that she got the win today."

On the men's side, Justin Krabbenhoft finished second in the 400 meters hurdles with a time of 58.29. Shane Girres finished right behind him in third place with a time of 1:03.04. Both were both members of the Argo 4x400 team that finished second, alongside teammates Joe McMillan and Abian Jamerson. Nash Grafe also had a solid day, finishing third in the 1500 meter race with a personal best time of 4:20.04.

"Justin had a really nice day," Arntson said. "He had some great times. It was awesome for him. Our 4x400 relay took second and he had a big split. I was really happy with him. Nash had a really nice run as well. He had a PR in the 1500 and he ran on our 4x400 too. He had a really strong day."

Dawson Fowler won the triple jump with a mark of 13.12 meters, while Fowler and Krabbenhoft both finished second in the high jump at 1.90 meters. Girres finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.36 meters while McMillan finished third in the pole vault at 3.80 meters.

On the thrower's side, Rico Pryor was the headliner, winning the hammer throw with a throw of 47.99 meters and finishing second in the discus at 43.3 meters, a new personal record. Adam Cearley also recorded a personal record, finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 13.29 meters.

The meet wraps up the final conference meet of the regular seaso for the squad. The team will only get a few days off before jumping into the Frontier Conference Championships, which will begin on Tuesday, April 26 at 12:00 a.m. at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.

"Today was good because we got an idea of where we're at in the conference and what we're going to see at conference," Arntson said. "For our kids that are healthy, I love where we're at. Our biggest thing right now is that we have a lot of people with small injuries that are nagging. I hope we can rest up on the weekend. That's our biggest thing between having a good meet and a great meet."
