Both Argo Teams Finish Third at Frontier Conference Championships

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field team finished in third place on both the men's and women's side at the Frontier Conference Championships, which concluded Wednesday at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls, Mont.

The men's team finished with 105 points, edging out Montana Tech by a single point for the third spot. Carroll College won the event with 250 total points, while Rocky Mountain College finished in second with 143 points.

The women's team finished third with 96 points, narrowly squeezing by Rocky Mountain College who finished fourth with 88 points. Montana Tech won the event with 226 points while Carroll College finished second with 203.

"I was so happy with the way our kids competed today in all areas." head coach Tony Arntson said. "I couldn't be more excited. We had so many kids step up in so many different areas. It was a great day for our program."

On the women's side, the throwers had themselves their usual successful day. The Argos finished in all four of the top places in the hammer throw, with Jillian Sanchez winning the event with a mark of 50.45 meters. Allyson Conner finished second at 47.24 meters, while Tatiana Martinez finished third at 43.28. Kathryn Evans finished in fourth place with a mark of 42.09 meters.

McKenzie Clark dominated as well, winning the javelin throw with a throw of 41.7 meters. Martinez finished second in the shot put (12.55 meters) while Sanchez was right behind her in third place at (12.14 meters). Martinez also finished third in the discus with a throw of 42.31 meters. Terra Bertsch finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters.

Jessica Lozano had a solid day on the track, finishing third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:10.12. She also was a part of the third place 4x100 team who finished with a time of 54:99, along with Violet Johnson, Grace Alexander, Terra Bertsch.

On the men's side, Justin Krabbenhoft had a solid day in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 58.22 meters. Krabbenhoft was also the anchor of two relay teams who finished third on the day; the 4x100 relay team, along with TJ Banks, Shane Girres and Joe McMillan, who finished with a time of 44:48, and the 4x400 team, alongside Girres, Nash Grafe and Abian Jamerson) who finished with a time of 3:32.79. The Argos 4x800 team, consisting of Grafe, Jamerson, Ciaran Molloy and Nate Dotson also finished third with a time of 9:06.32.

Krabbenhoft all had an incredible day in the high jump, breaking the school record at 2.00 meters en route to finishing second in the conference. His teammate Dawson Fowler finished right behind him in third place with a mark of 1.85 meters. Fowler also had a solid showing in the triple jump, finishing second in the conference at 13.50 meters.

The men's throwers also had some success. Rico Pryor was the highlight of the day, finishing second in the discus (44.43 meters), second in the men's hammer throw (42.69 meters) and third in the shot put (13.93 meters). Logan Meikle finished third in the discus (41.49 meters), Adam Cearley finished third in the men's hammer throw (34.04 meters) while Hudson Jones finished third in the javelin (45.10 meters).

"I was just so impressed with all of our kids," Arntson said. "I thought they competed very well today. That's what you want at the conference championship."

The conference championship's conclusion does not mean the end of the season for the Argo team as they will compete next Saturday at the University of Montana.
