HELENA, Mont. – After placing second in the shot put at the Bobcat Performance, sophomore Travis Zavala has been named the Frontier Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Zavala is a sophomore from Anaheim, Calif. and placed second in the shot put with a distance of 15.72m. Zavala broke the school record and qualified at A standard two weeks prior at the Stacy Dragila Open.
This is Zavala's first Athlete of the Week award this season and his career. Travis is the first men's indoor track & field athlete of the week winner and third overall joining Tatiana Martinez and Terra Bertsch.
Assistant coach Alan Cress on Zavala's performance stated, "Travis continues to be very consistent in the shot put, with an NAIA "A" standard throw two weeks ago, he followed up nicely with his showing at the Bobcat Performance indoor meet this past Friday. Only 10 centimeters of his personal best, his mark of 15.72m and second place finish really shows that his season is progressing as planned heading into the National Championships in two weeks."
Argos will be back in action Feb. 16 when they travel back to Bozeman, Mont. for the Big Sky Tuner.
