HELENA, Mont. – After placing second in the weight throw at the Big Sky Tuner, senior Allyson Conner has been named the Frontier Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Conner is a senior from Orange, Calif. and placed first among NAIA competitors in the weight throw Friday. Conner already qualified last week at A standard for the NAIA National Championships, but her distance of 16.60m this weekend was a new personal record and another A standard throw.
This is Conner's first Athlete of the Week award of her career and the second for the women's indoor track team this season after junior Tatiana Martinez took home the award last week. Conner is the third women's indoor track & field athlete of the week winner and fourth overall in Argo athletics history joining Martinez, Travis Zavala, and Terra Bertsch.
Assistant coach Alan Cress on Conner's performance stated, "Allyson's hard work and commitment is paying off this year as demonstrated by her performance at the Big Sky Tuner meet in Bozeman this past Friday. Allyson went into the last regular season and final indoor meet of her career determined to set personal best marks in shot put and weight throw and break the school record in the weight throw. Allyson finished with a new PR in the weight throw at 16.60m, 3 centimeters off the UP record, for a second-place finish at the meet and a new PR in the shot put of 12.39m, which places her third on the UP All-Time Top 10 list and another second-place finish at the meet. This was an outstanding performance to end her regular season career for indoor track and she will be looking to break the UP record in the weight throw at the NAIA Indoor National Championship in Brookings, SD."
The Argos will be back in action Feb. 29 for day one at the NAIA National Indoor Championships in Brookings, S.D.
