2/26/2024 2:10:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After going 2-0 on her way to becoming the Cascade Collegiate Conference Champion at 101, #1 sophomore Erin Hikiji has been named the CCC Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week.

Hikiji was named the most outstanding wrestler at the CCC tournament Sunday after defeating #19 Karly Scott 10-0 and defeating #3 Kayla McKinley-Johnson 12-1.

This is Hikiji's second wrestler of the week award this season after taking home the award following her first-place finish at the North Central open earlier this season. Hikiji is the ninth Argo to win women's wrestler of the week in UP Athletics history and the third this season joining Waipuilani Estrella-Beauchamp, Paige Morales, Ashley Gooman, Ira Navarro, Ivy Navarro, Emily Lorring, Tatum Sparks, and Yurie Yoneoka.

Head coach Matt Atwood on Hikiji's performance stated, "Erin continued to show her dominance yet again this week! She took out an extremely quality opponent in her finals match who came out hot, the first couple minutes of that match we all knew it was a matter of who could weather the storm and Erin was able to stay composed and control the things she could control, she stayed consistent, and things started to fall in her favor! She's a joy to watch compete, she's so talented and hard working yet the most humble athlete in the tournament it's hard for anyone to not cheer for her. Nationals will be another test but she's ready and I'm excited to watch her do what she does best!"

The Argos will be back in action March 8-9 at the NAIA National Championship in Jamestown, N.D.
