HELENA, Mont. – After placing second in both the Shot Put and Discus at the Fighting Saints Open, sophomore Travis Zavala has been named the Frontier Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Zavala is a sophomore from Anaheim, Calif. and posted a pair of runner-up finishes at the Fighting Saints Open. He hit a distance of 15.37m in the Shot Put to place second by 0.04m. The Discus Throw was even closer where Zavala's mark of 45.51m was 0.01m behind the event winner.
This is Zavala's second Athlete of the Week award this season after taking home the award once during the indoor track and field season. Zavala is the fourth men's outdoor track & field athlete of the week winner in Argo Athletics history joining Imhotep Pryor, Zebadiah Boos, and James Gerber.
Assistant coach Alan Cress on Zavala's performance stated, "Travis continues to work hard on qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in both the shot put and discus. He is getting closer each week and his results from the Fighting Saints Open this past Friday indicate that it could happen for him at any time now!"
The Argos will be back in action April 19-20 for the Montana Open. Athletes will be competing throughout the day in Missoula, Mont. at Dornblaser Field.
