HELENA, Mont. – After placing first in both the Shot Put and Hammer Throw at the Fighting Saints Open, senior Allyson Conner has been named the Frontier Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Conner is a senior from Orange, Calif. and with her first-place throw in the Hammer, Conner broke her own school record for the second week in a row with 54.42m. Conner qualified last weekend at A standard already but this throw was also good for an A standard qualification for the NAIA National Championships.
This is Conner's third Athlete of the Week award this season and second in a row after taking home the award once during the indoor track and field season. Conner is the sixth outdoor women's track & field athlete of the week winner in Argo Athletics history joining Gabbie Parini, McKenzie Clark, Jillian Sanchez, Shang Cosby, and Alye Fiell.
Assistant coach Alan Cress on Conner's performance stated, "Allyson continues to improve her hammer throw with the goal of staying ranked within the top 10 competitors in the NAIA going into the National Championships. She is also getting closer to qualifying in the shot put with an outstanding effort this past Friday at the Fighting Saints Open meet. Her goal all year long has been to qualify for Nationals in all three of her events and she is showing me that it could become a reality at any meet in the near future!"
The Argos will be back in action April 19-20 for the Montana Open. Athletes will be competing throughout the day in Missoula, Mont. at Dornblaser Field. Â
