HELENA, Mont. – After placing discus at the Montana Open, junior Tatiana Martinez has been named the Frontier Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Martinez is a junior from Las Vegas, Nev. and placed first in the discus among NCAA competitors with an A standard distance of 44.72m. Martinez's had already qualified at A standard at the Argo Open for the NAIA National Championships earlier this season. Â Â
This is Martinez's second Athlete of the Week award this season after taking home the award once during the indoor track and field season. Tatiana is the seventh outdoor women's track & field athlete of the week winner in Argo Athletics history joining Allyson Conner, Gabbie Parini, McKenzie Clark, Jillian Sanchez, Shang Cosby, and Alye Fiell.
Assistant coach Alan Cress on Martinez's performance stated, "I am extremely impressed with Tatiana's discus throws this season, where every meet has been over the NAIA "A " standard thus far. Her hard work in the weight room and in the ring at practice are really paying off this year and contributing to her success with big personal best throws in hammer and shot put as well. By winning the discus throw this past weekend at the Montana Open, she showed that she is ready for the upcoming Frontier Conference and NAIA National Championships!"
Argos will be back in action April 25 when they travel to Helena, Mont. for the Trudnowski Open. Â
