Final Results from the Frontier Conference Championships

BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field teams had two first place finishes on the final day at the Frontier Conference Championships in Butte, Mont.

Senior Allyson Conner was the first athlete crowned champion when on her sixth and final throw in the Shot Put she set a new school record with 13.63m. Her distance surpassed Daphne Puckett's record of 13.60m in 2017.

Assistant coach Alan Cress on Conner's performance stated, "" The biggest surprise of the Frontier Conference Championship for me came when Allyson Conner's 6th and final shot-put attempt sailed out to 13.63 meters, putting an exclamation point on her phenomenal meet, with back-to-back shot-put titles, a new UP record and the NAIA "A" standard. A 37-centimeter PR is extremely rare, but to do it on your 6th and final attempt when you know you have the meet won is almost unheard of in throwing. I am proud of the way she is still fighting for new records and personal best throws, all the way to the National Championship!"

The second champion of the day was junior Tatiana Martinez in the discus. Her throw of 49.12m broke her own school record she set at the Argo Open, and it is also the third best throw in the NAIA this season.

Assistant coach Cress on Martinez's performance stated, ""Tatiana has been practicing extremely well in the discus, and I am so proud of her commitment to reach the 50m mark. Her new UP record throw and first place finish at the Frontier Conference Championship of 49.12m nearly reached that goal and vaulted her into the #3 ranking in the NAIA thus far in 2024. It was also a whopping 2.86m improvement over her previous record of 46.26 set on April 4th at the University of Providence Open. I am confident that going into the NAIA National Championship, Tatiana is poised to compete for the discus title and break the 50m barrier!"

The Argos also had a few second place finishes with senior Gabbie Parini and Evan Major in the 100M, Martinez in the shot put, sophomore Avari Batt and senior Imhotep Pryor in the discus, and junior Logan Nicholson and freshman Hudson Bain in the high jump.

The Argos will be back in action May 22-24 at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Indiana.
