MARSHALL, Mo. -- The University of Providence men's wrestling program competed at the Missouri Valley Invitational throughout the day Friday.
Abel Nava Jr. was the highlight for the Argos finishing 4-0 on the day to advance to the semifinals. As the returning Missouri Valley Invitational Champion at 174, Abel defeated Anthony Pyron 8-0, Tyson Barnhart 5-3, Chris Morales 8-1, and #12 Devin Crawford 5-0. Nava Jr. will wrestle #5 Kris Ketchum of St. Thomas University in the semifinals tomorrow.
Two other Argos advanced to the quarterfinals in #16
Jalen Vladic and #23
Dougie Swanson. Swanson finished 3-1 on the day, pinning his first opponent in 4:28 before winning back-to-back decisions by scores of 3-1 and 4-1, respectively. Vladic went 2-1 on Friday pinning Noah Avila in 4:05 before defeating Kyler Adams by major decision 13-7.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 25 for day two at the Missouri Valley Invitational. Wrestlers will begin at 9:00 a.m. (MST) and will compete throughout the day.
