Eight Argos Place First at Fighting Saints Open

HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence track and field teams had eight athletes place first at the Fighting Saints Open throughout the day Saturday.

The Argos had a few highlights in freshman Lauren Cima in setting a new program record and qualifying at B Standard in the shot put with a throw of 13.90m. Junior Travis Zavala also qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the shot put with a throw of 16.30m.

Freshman Havyn Vandenacre also set a new program record in the 400M hurdles with a first-place finish and a time of 1:06.50.

UP had five other athletes place first in Kelsey Stensland-Plymale in the 1500M with a time of 4:53.89, Lauren Cima in the hammer throw at 48.58m, Tatiana Martinez in the discus at 44.50m, Savannah Ivins in the 800m at 2:29.18, Jullian Williams in the hammer throw at 49.94m, and Ciaran Molloy in the 5000M at 16:28.30.

The Argos will be back in action Thursday, April 10 when they host the Providence Open in Great Falls, Mont. Athletes will compete throughout the day at CMR High School.
