GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Freshman
Lauren Cima has set a new standard for Argo Track and Field as she became the first freshman in program history to qualify for all three throwing events at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
Â
Assistant Track & Field Coach
Alan Cress on Cima's success stated, "Lauren continues to impress me with her ability to stay focused and improve her marks throughout the season. I have never had a freshman thrower who has qualified in the shot put, discus and hammer for the National Championship. This is very a rare occurrence within the NAIA, and she is the only freshman to do so this year, with her shot put and hammer throws ranking inside the top 10. Going into the Championship meet and coming off her wins at the Frontier Conference Championship in both, I believe that Lauren has solidified herself as one of the greatest throwers in program history."
Cima qualified for the Discus at the Yellowjacket Open on March 27
th with a throw of 44.64m and a third-place finish. Cima then qualified for the Shot Put at the Fighting Saints Open on April 5
th with a new program record and a first-place finish at 13.90m. Cima wrapped up her spring by qualifying at B Standard in the Hammer Throw but hit an A standard at the Griz Open with a throw of 54.26m.
Â
Heading into the NAIA National Championships Cima currently ranks #6 in the Hammer, #7 in the Shot Put, and #26 in the Discus in the NAIA.
Â
Cima will participate in the Hammer Throw at 12:30 p.m. (MST) on Wednesday, the Shot Put at 11:00 a.m. (MST) on Thursday, and the Discus at 1:00 p.m. (MST) on Friday.
