MARION, IND. – The University of Providence women's outdoor track and field program had three athletes compete at the NAIA National Championships at Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday.

The highlight of the day for the Argos was junior Shelbey Klein who competed in the Javelin after finishing in third place at the Frontier Conference Championships. Klein needed her third throw of the preliminary flight to hit 42.00m meters and qualify for the finals, and that mark would hold as she finished in fifth for her first career All-American status.

Assistant Track & Field Coach Alan Cress on Klein's performance stated, "I am very proud of Shelbey's determination today. Shelbey came into the competition with the goal of being an All-American. When facing elimination on her 3rd attempt in the preliminary rounds, she came up big with a throw that carried her all the way through the finals for a fifth place finish and her All-American spot on the podium."

UP also had freshman Lauren Cima and Havyn Vandenacre make their debuts at the NAIA National Championships with Cima placing 15th in the Hammer Throw and Vandenacre placing 15th in the Javelin.

The Argos still have three others competing over the next two days at the NAIA National Championships in freshman Lauren Cima in the shot put on Thursday and the Discus on Friday, junior Travis Zavala in the Shot Put on Friday, and senior Tatiana Martinez in the Discus on Friday.
