GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's hockey program defeated Weber State 4-2 Thursday night.
The Argos (3-1) scored the first goal of the game just under six minutes in when junior
Kage Yellowfly's pass from behind the net found senior
AJ Belanger whose one-timer found the back of the net to put UP in front 1-0.
The Wildcats (3-2) pressured for the rest of the period with two different power-play opportunities, but senior goalkeeper
Chris Fines stood tall as the Argos went into the break leading 1-0.
Four minutes into the second period the Argos extended their lead to two after a loose puck fell to senior
Elliott Venini in front of the goal and his wrist shot beat the goalkeeper to put UP in front 2-0.
The Wildcats answered moments later with a goal, and despite a few chances for both teams, neither side could find the back of the net the rest of the period as UP went into the break leading 2-1.
Both teams went back-and-forth over the first three minutes of the third period until the Argos won a faceoff in the offensive zone to junior
William Clark whose cross-ice pass found senior
Kaleb West and his shot from the blue line squeezed past the goalkeeper to give the Argos a 3-1 lead.
Weber State responded with a goal midway through the period to cut the lead in half, but senior
Adam Husli added an empty net goal down the stretch as UP defeated Weber State 4-2.
The Argos will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 2 when they head to Salt Lake City, Utah for a matchup with the Utes at 4:30 p.m. (MST). Â
