Krans Breaks Through Argo Scoring Slump in Win

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Team Captain Jon-Eric Krans broke UGF soccer's two game scoreless slump early in the first half against Oregon Tech to give the team a much needed 1-0 road win.

After losing two matches last weekend despite leading their opponents in both shots and shots on goal, the Argos once again won the shooting battle. The difference this time was Krans who bounced a shot off the post and into the net in the 19th minute.

The goal ended a 199 minute scoreless streak for the Argos and left the team with 70 minutes to defend a precious lead. The UGF defense handled that task with help of solid ball possession.

"I thought we put together another solid performance," UGF head coach Joseph Yeisley. "We did a great job of controlling the tempo of the game and staying disciplined defensively."

Despite facing a team that needed a goal for majority of the game, the Argos allowed a total of just three shots on goal and only one in the second half. All three of those shots were saved by freshman keeper Marc Girones.

Great Falls also managed to stay aggressive while defending their lead, outshooting the Owls 8-6 in the second half and 18-14 in the game as a whole. The Argos also put eight other shots on frame, which the Owl's keeper was able to save.

"I thought their keeper made some outstanding saves," Yeisley said. "I know the guys are frustrated that more of the chances aren't finding the back of the net but as long as we keep creating them it's just a matter of time before we explode offensively."

The team will hope to get that explosion in their next game against Southern Oregon University on October 25 at 5 p.m. The Argos record currently stands at 8-5 (6-3).
