Season Recap: Lady Argos Volleyball has Historic Season

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Lady Argonauts' historic season came to an end in Helena, Mont., as UGF women's volleyball lost to Rocky Mountain College 3-1 in the Frontier Conference semifinals.

Despite the playoff loss, the 2015-16 season was a remarkable one for UGF. With a final record of 26-10 (7-5) the Lady Argos finished fourth in the Frontier Conference and set a new program record for most wins in a season.

UGF also returned to the top-25 during the season, ranking 24th in the nation in the first poll of the season on September 8 after going 8-2 in the month of August. While the team dropped out of the rankings two weeks later, it continued to receive votes throughout the season, thanks in large part to wins over ranked teams and two others receiving votes.

The end of the season featured an exciting home stand of three matches. The first, on October 29, was a close loss to the second ranked team in the conference, Carroll College but the next were huge wins. Two days later, the Argos defeated the third team in the FC in a thrilling five set match. The win put Great Fall's head coach, Arunas Duda at 199 wins with one home match left.

That final home match, a November 6 contest against Montana Western, proved to be momentous night for the Argos. Not only did the program send off its five important senior with a 3-1 win over Montana Western, but it also claimed the milestone 200th win for Duda.

To cap off the season, UGF placed three members on the Frontier All-Conference Team. Senior right side hitter Kelsee Montagna and junior outside hitter Madisen Wilhelm both made First Team All-Conference while senior middle blocker Devon Bogart made the conference second team.

UGF finished fifth in the NAIA Division I in total blocks with 329, and finished 17th in total assists with 1572. Junior middle blocker Tiffany Marks also finished the season ranked eighth in the nation in total blocks.
