DILLON, Mont. – Aggressive defense at the net was the difference for Lady Argo volleyball as UGF earned its fourteenth win of the season with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) victory over the University of Montana Western.
All three sets played out similarly, with UGF's defensive presence forcing the Bulldogs into a total of 26 hitting errors. The Argos, on the other hand, finished with a hitting percentage of .230, slightly above their season average of .215.
The defense not only forced UMW into giving up points, but also created a number of its own with a team total of 12 blocks. UGF now ranks fifth in the NAIA in total blocks thanks in large part to junior middle blocker Tiffany Marks who leads the Frontier Conference in that category. Marks continued to lead the Argos front line with two blocks, seven block assists, and just one blocking error against the Bulldogs.
Marks was a key for UGF offensively as well, finishing tied for the team high in kills with nine. The other two Argonauts with nine kills apiece were senior middle blocker Devon Bogart and junior outside hitter Madison Wilhelm.
Marks, Bogart, and Wilhelm were set-up well by not only setter Bree Davis, who finished with 10 assists, but also by sophomore outside hitter, Dani Norling, who finished with a team high of 15 assists.
The win brings the Lady Argos' record to 14-5 (1-1) with a chance to earn a winning record in the Frontier Conference with their road match against Lewis-Clark State College on September 26 at 3 pm.
