LEWISTON, Idaho – Inefficient hitting proved to be a problem too big to overcome in a 3-1 loss to Lewis-Clark State College for the University of Great Falls women's volleyball team.
The Lady Argos came out with not just their most efficient offensive set of the match but with one of their better statistical sets of conference play. They converted 11 kills with only three errors for a .320 hitting percentage. Unfortunately the Lady Warriors' offense was even better, hitting an outstanding .680 percent to take the first set 25-16.
While UGF's offensive effort fell a bit in the second set, the team's defense, its strength throughout the season, regained its form. With the net presence of middle blockers Tiffany Marks, and Devon Bogart and the backline play of libero Kennedy Chadwick, UGF limited the Warriors' to a .083 hitting percentage. The defensive effort, along with good hitting from Bogart and Madison Wilhelm, led to a 25-22 second set win for UGF.
The final two sets were somewhere in the middle of the two extremes for the Warrior offense while the UGF offense struggled. Lewis-Clark hit .235 and .265 respectively in the third and fourth sets, winning 25-19 and 25-15.
The Argos received a solid performance from Wilhelm both offensively and defensively. Not only did the junior tie for the team lead in kills, she also led the team with 14 digs. Chadwick finished second in digs with 11.
Great Falls next test will be one of their toughest of the season as they visit sixth ranked Rocky Mountain College on October 1 at 7 pm.
