LEWISTON, Idaho – Argo basketball's season came to end, but not without a fight. UGF was even with (6) Lewis-Clark State college with under four minutes to go, but lost to the Warriors 76-68 in the Frontier Conference semifinals.
For most of the first half the underdog Argos held the lead thanks in large part to a hot start from sophomore guard/forward Sigman Farmer III. Farmer scored five of the team's first eight points.
With six minutes left in the first half, a layup from senior Daniel Arcau brought the UGF lead to nine, which turned out to be the pinnacle of the night for the Argos. LC State spent the rest of the half diminishing that lead and building a slim four-point lead of its own.
That momentum continued to start the second half until the Warriors matched UGF's earlier nine-point lead three minutes into the half.
It was then the Argos' turn to respond, and they did so with a few defensive stops and three made 3-pointers from three different players. The first came from sophomore Sergio Berkley, followed by freshman Jarred Burr, and senior Darren Lockett.
Lockett's bucket narrowed the lead to one point and after jockeying back-and-forth with the Warriors for the next few minutes, a two from Michael Harris gave UGF their first lead since the first half.
With under three minutes left the score was tied at 62. It was at that point that LC State stayed hot while the otherwise efficient and balanced Argo offense sputtered. The Warriors scored the next 10 points and put the game out of reach.
Farmer finished as the team's leading scorer and rebounder with 16 points and five boards, capping a strong end to the season for the sophomore. Senior Darren Lockett finished his college career with a 14 point, four assist performance, including nine second half points.
UGF wraps up the season with 13-16 (5-13) record and five wins over ranked teams.
