Lady Argo Softball Finishes Arizona Trip with Program Best Record

Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. – Lady Argo softball wrapped up its season opening trip to Arizona with a 5-1 loss to Olivet Nazarene University. The team finished the trip with a 6-4 record, the best 10-game start in program history.

What sank UGF against the Tigers was bottom of the second in which they let up four runs. Outside of that single inning run, ONU only scored one run, which the Lady Argos equaled in the top of the sixth.

That run was scored by senior Regan Rucks who reached base on a leadoff double. She then advanced to third on a wild pitch and then reached home off of an RBI fly out from junior Hali Gruntowicz.

Rucks finished the game with two hits and one run in four at-bats. Her two hits accounted for a third of UGF's total team hits against the Tigers.

After that rough second inning, freshman pitcher Brie Clifford pitched one inning of scoreless relief. She was then replaced by reining Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week, Keeley Van Blaricom who allowed just one run in 3.2 innings.

The game ended the Lady Argo's five-day trip to Tucson with a 6-4 record. While the team will come back to the north they still won't get to play at home just yet. They start CCC conference play on Friday, March 11 with a road double-header against Eastern Oregon University.
