PREVIEW: Crucial Midseason Run at Stake for Lady Argos vs UBC

CCC Standings | Live Stats

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – With the team's 8-game losing streak now over, Lady Argo softball's climb back up the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings is underway. The next step is two road doubleheaders against the University of British Columbia, the last team in the CCC standings.

UGF's all-time series against UBC favors the Thunderbirds 4-5, but the Lady Argos won both games of the teams' 2016 doubleheader. UBC is on a down year with a record of 1-16 (0-9), but the Lady Argos have struggled in road games during conference play, and the trip to Vancouver, B.C. will be the team's longest trip yet.

The first of two doubleheaders will begin at 2 p.m. MDT on March 31, followed by a Noon MDT start on April 1. The second game of the second doubleheader will be a non-conference contest.

Getting Used to the Road: The long road trips associated with CCC play had taken its toll on the Lady Argos in 2017. After starting the year 6-0 away from home, including two true away games and four neutral site contests, UGF has yet to win a game away from home. Since conference play began, the team is 0-8 on the road but 5-3 at home.

Plenty of Ground to Make Up: UGF rose two spots in the CCC standings with two conference wins over Northwest University last weekend, moving from 9th to T-7th, but there is still plenty of work to be done to get back above the playoff cut of six teams. With a conference record of 3-9, the Lady Argos are still three games behind the 6th team, College of Idaho at 6-6.

This is the time for a charge, with UGF in the middle of its easiest stretch of games this season. Starting with the Northwest series, the Lady Argos will face the three lowest teams in CCC in three of its next four weekends.

Quick Notes:
  • In the 4-game series against NU, UGF had one of their best offensive weekends. The Lady Argos had a total of 30 runs off of 48 hits for a hitting percentage of .333.
  • Senior Morgan Robinson hit above .500 in 3 of the 4 games against Northwest with 8 hits, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs.
  • Before the last EOU game, senior Hali Gruntowicz had a season batting average of .200. In the last 5 games Gruntowicz earned 7 hits, 3 runs, in 14 at bats, with an average of .500, improving her season average to .271.
  • Senior, Jocelyn Kaufman is leading the Lady Argos with 23 hits and an average of .404. In three games worth of action she had a total of 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 RBIs, and 2 home runs in 9 at bats. Kaufman had only 2 career home runs prior to this weekend.
