WHITEFISH, Mont. – Seven University of Providence volleyball student-athletes were named as Academic All-Conference selections, announced by the Frontier Conference office.
To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in standing, enrolled at their school for two semesters, and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.
The list of Argos includes seniors
Paige Jensen and
Olivia Snead; juniors
Kelsey Shaver and
Isabelle Parker; and sophomores
Sydney Andersen,
Cydney Finberg, and
Ember Schwindt. Jensen, Snead, and Parker were among the three to receive their second Academic All-Conference recognition.
Jensen had a breakout season for the Argos in which she earned Setter of the Week recognition as well. She finished the season second in the conference in total assists with 1,018, in which Jensen was one of two student-athletes in the Frontier Conference to surpass 1,000 assists during the 2018 season. She also claimed third place in the conference in assists per set, averaging 8.1 on the season.
Snead was a huge asset for the Argos this past season, working in tandem as a defensive specialist alongside
Averi Dyer. Snead finished 13th in the Frontier in service aces per set with 0.2 and 19th in total service aces with 23.
Parker adds Frontier Academic All-Conference to her Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete and Champion of Character honors following the 2018 season. She claimed 15th in the conference in total blocks on the season with 62 and tied for 18th in blocks per set, averaging 0.5.
Shaver had an absolutely stellar first season with the Argos that saw her earn First Team All-Conference, AVCA All-Region Team, NAIA and AVCA All-America Second Team, and three Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week honors. She led the Frontier Conference in total kills with 451 and kills per set with an average of 3.8, in addition to leading at the service line with a conference-leading 47 service aces on the year. Shaver finished second in the conference with a .0247 hitting percentage, while also finishing second in service aces per set with 0.4.
Andersen had another breakout season for the Argos during her sophomore campaign, earning First Team All-Conference, AVCA All-Region Team, and being named Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week twice. Andersen finished third in the Frontier in hitting percentage, averaging 0.245 on the season. She also finished fifth in the conference in kills with 383 and kills per set with an average of 3.1.
Finberg worked in tandem with Jensen throughout the 2018 campaign. Despite Jensen finishing second in the conference in assists, Finberg was also able to crack the top-10 at eighth with a total of 343 assists on the year.
Schwindt was the Argos threat at the net during the 2018 season. She claimed sixth in the conference in total blocks with 112 and blocks per set with 0.9.
