Argo Soccer Inks Offensive Threat Leonardo Almeida

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo men's soccer and head coach Matt Ball announced their newest signee on Wednesday, Leonardo Almeida, from Lake Superior College and Duluth FC.

Almeida, a native of Braganca Paulista, Brazil, is a junior forward transfer from Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minnesota. As an IceHawk, he played in 27 games, scoring 19 goals and assisting on four others during his freshman and sophomore seasons. He has been named First Team All-Conference, First Team all-region, received most valuable player recognition, in addition to the Golden Boots award for most goals in a season. He was a captain for the IceHawks and helped the team claim the conference championship title in 2017.

He has also been a member of the Duluth FC this past summer in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).  Almeida played in seven games for Duluth FC, netting a goal and an assist, and helping the team capture the Midwest Region championship.

"We moved pretty quickly to get Leo on board, but we've done our homework," expressed head coach Matt Ball. "I was alerted to his availability by Kyle Bakas at Billings United and once I had a chat with Joel Person at Duluth FC, it was apparent that this was the guy we wanted."

Almeida will graduate from Lake Superior College with his associates degree and study business administration as an Argo.

"Leo is very driven and takes care of business on and off the field," said Ball. "A 4.0 student who has the ability to score goals, there's not much more I could as for. He wants to be successful and we look forward to helping him strive here at UP."
