Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. – Argo softball fell to the Warriors during their series opening doubleheader on Monday in Salem, Oregon.
GAME ONE – University of Providence 0 – Corban University 13
How it Happened: The Warriors opened things up with a pair of singles, but the Argos were able to pick off the lead-off runner. After loading the bases, the Warriors knocked a one-out RBI-single to plate the first run of the game, 1-0. The next batter connected on a one-out 2-RBI single to put the Warriors up by three, 3-0. The Argos tallied their second out of the inning, before another Warrior single would plate another pair of runners to give Corban a five-point advantage, 5-0. The Warriors plated their final runs of the match on a pair of wild pitches to take a 7-0 lead after one. At the top of the second, the Argos opened the frame with a ground-out. The Warriors loaded the bases following a walk, a hit by pitch, and a fielding error. Corban connected on a 2-RBI triple to right field, scoring a pair of Warriors, 9-0. Another wild pitch plated the third Warriors of the frame to give Corban a 10-point advantage. Corban opened the top of the third with a hit by pitch and a stolen base to put a runner in scoring position. The Warrior's tallied an RBI-double to push their lead to 11. The Argos would earn two fielder's choice outs to try and close out the inning. An Argo hit by pitch put the first runner on base, before a stolen base would put them in scoring position. The Warriors knocked an RBI-double to plate a runner and put another in scoring position following a fielding error. A pair of fielder's choice outs would put the Argos one out from closing the inning. A walk would load the bases before a 2-RBI single would put the Warriors' lead at 13-0. Both squads would remain quite of the following two and a half innings to close out the game after five.
At the Plate: Hannah VanDomelen and
Hanna Tarum led the Argos with a hit each, going 1-for-2 in the contest.
In the Circle: KJ Schweikert opened things up on the mound, pitching three innings and allowing 13 runs on nine hits. She also put out one batter.
Khalyn Hageness closed things out on the mount, allowing no runs on no hits over two innings pitched.
GAME TWO – University of Providence 0 – Corban University 12
How it Happened: The Warriors put runners in scoring position to open the game following a single, a pair of wild pitches, and a walk. A sacrifice fly would plate the first run for Corban, before an RBI-single would tally the Warriors second run of the frame, 2-0. The top of the second was when the Warriors broke away. The lead-off batter knocked a single before a 2-RBI home run would double the Warriors lead to four, 4-0. Another pair of Warriors got into scoring position before a 2-RBI double would bring them home to make it 6-0. The Argos secured a ground out as the Warriors runner advanced to third. An RBI-single would bring the lead runner home to push the lead to seven, 7-0. Following a fielder's choice to give the Argos a pair of outs, the Warriors knocked a 3-RBI homer to take a double-digit advantage, 10-0. A solo home run in the third extended the Warriors lead to 11. The Warriors would punch through one more run in the fifth on a one-out double to extend Corban's lead to its final, 12-0.
At the Plate: Shayla Cole was perfect for the Argos at the plate, going 2-for-2 to tally the Argos two hits in the contest.
In the Circle: VanDomelen started the Argos out on the mound, allowing 10 runs on nine hits over two innings.
Brieanna Clifford came in for relief of Vandomelen, closing things out with two runs on four hits over three innings. Clifford also tallied a pair of strikeouts in the contest.
