GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo soccer inks junior transfer and amateur soccer athlete William Velasquez to 2019-20 roster, announced by head coach
Matt Ball on Thursday.
Velasquez, a junior transfer from Greeley, Colorado, comes to the Argos after playing the last two seasons at Northeastern Junior College. As a Plainsman, Velasquez competed as a midfielder in 28 games over his two season at Northeastern, playing 17 of this games this past year as a sophomore. They also reached the Region 9 final during the Plainsmen's 2017 season and reached a peak ranking of No. 12 in the nation during his sophomore campaign, 2018.
During high school, Velasquez attended Greeley Central High School, competing as three-year member on the varsity team. He served as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons and was named honorable mention all-conference during his senior campaign. Velasquez tallied five goals as a midfielder during his high school career.
Outside of his high school program, Velasquez also competed for the Northern Colorado Soccer Club, reaching the President Cup final two consecutive years and winning the real cup Colorado showcase. In addition, he competed in minor league soccer for the United Premier Soccer League with FC United during the 2017-18 season, netting a pair of goals during the campaign.
This summer Velasquez will compete in the National Premier Soccer League with FC Greeley.
"Will is a very valuable addition for us, he's an intelligent player and as such can help us in a couple of different spots. I'm sure he'll come in and have our returners looking over their shoulders as he pushes for significant time," explained coach Ball. "He is a well-rounded student-athlete with a big drive to succeed, this stood out in our initial conversations and is why I'm really pleased to have him joining us. A great combination of talent and character."
