GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Argos head to the Evergreen State this weekend as they take on the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers on the campus of Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington.
The University of Providence (6-17, 6-11 CCC) will take on the Mountaineers (7-26, 3-15 CCC) on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m., followed by their second doubleheader of the weekend at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Friday's series opener will be the 33
rd meeting between the Argos and the Mountaineers. Eastern Oregon leads the matchups 19-13, with a current streak of 10 straight victories over the Argos. The series finale last season saw the Mountaineers notch a 5-1 victory.
Previewing the Argos
Providence enters Friday's doubleheader after earning their second series victory of the season over the Northwest University Eagles, 2-1. The Eagles captured the non-conference series finale to split both Friday's and Saturday's games.
Following the Argos games against the Eagles,
Taylor Mathews is the Argos current leader at the plate. She leads the team in RBI with 12, in addition to producing a team-high 22 hits and scoring 13 of her own runs. Mathews holds a batting average of 0.319.
Hannah VanDomelen (5-6) continues to lead the Argos in the circle as she secured a pair of victories over the weekend against the Eagles. VanDomelen has played in 11 games so far this season for the Argos, tallying 15 strikeouts.
Scouting the Mountaineers
Eastern Oregon is coming off a conference series loss against the College of Idaho but claimed the non-conference matchup to split their weekend the Yotes.
The Mountaineers claimed a one-point, 6-5, victory in the series opener before falling 1-6 to the Yotes to split Friday's doubleheader. The Yotes would hold on for a 1-7 victory to claim the conference series over the Mountaineers but Eastern Oregon would produce a 3-1 victory in the series finale to split Saturday's games as well.
At the plate, the Mountaineers have three players that have knocked in 15 RBI. Haley Ebner leads the field with a 0.323 batting average, with teammates Rayne Spencer and Hannah Rothwell as the others to tie the mark. Ebner has 31 hits on the season and has tallied 11 runs of her own.
Amanda Smith (2-10) leads the Mountaineers in innings pitched at 86.2, while also tallying 64 strikouts on the season for Eastern Oregon.
