MISSOULA, Mont. – The Argos had an excellent showing at the Montana Open on Friday and Saturday as another school record fell and
Conor McGee earned a new PR in the 5,000-meter run. The Argos tallied a first-place finish in the women's javelin, in addition to a pair of runner-up finishes to top off the weekend in Missoula.
Zebadiah Boos keeps raising the bar this season as he surpassed his school record yet again in the hammer throw.
Shana Cosby took the top spot in the women's javelin, while
Peyton Jones and
James Gerber were both runners-up in the 5,000-meter and men's javelin, respectively.
On the women's side, Cosby dominated the javelin with a huge 40.15-meter mark, which was nearly five meters further than University of Montana's Jaree Mane, who claimed second.
Jillian Sanchez had a great day as well, setting her best mark in the discus with a 40.34-meter throw to claim 3
rd place. Sanchez would also place 6
th in the hammer throw with a 41.38-meter toss and 7
th in the shot put, claiming an 11.46-meter performance.
Making her 2019 outdoor season debut,
Kaylee Beer claimed 5
th in the discus for the Argos, setting her best mark of the day with a 39.07-meter throw. She placed 12
th in the hammer throw, claiming a 37.07-meter mark and 14
th in the shot put with a 9.10-meter toss.
Kristen Nash rounded out the Argos throwing field, placing 11
th in the hammer throw with a 37.33-meter throw, while placing 12
th in the shot put and discus with 37.33-meter and 31.36-meter performances, respectively.
On the track, four Argos competed in the 800-meter run with all four running a season best.
Kita Weingart lead the pack in 17
th, claiming a finish of 2:40.43.
Christina Eike followed closely behind as she finished 18
th with a time of 2:41.79, while teammates
Jordan Young and
Makayla Cook claimed 20
th and 22
nd, clocking 2:45.02 and 3:04.38, respectively.
On the men's side, Jones claimed an impressive second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:41.45, after altitude adjustment of 15:29.18 he narrowly missed his personal best by .63 seconds. Teammate Gerber also came in runner-up in the javelin with an impressive 53.96-meter toss.
McGee set a new personal record as he competed in the 5,000-meter run with Jones, placing 11
th with a time of 16:16.65, with an altitude adjustment of 16:03.92, nearly nine seconds faster than his previous personal best.
Sage Wanner finished 3
rd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 11:00.64.
Just like the women,
Brenden Thompson ran a season best in the 800-meter, claiming 15th-place as he clocked a time of 2:17.68.
In the field events, Boos claimed his best mark in the hammer throw, placing 3
rd with a mark of 49.26 meters. He also finished 5
th in the discus with a 43.70-meter toss and 8
th shot put with a 12.50-meter performance.
