4 Argos Named Academic All-Conference

WHITEFISH, Mont. – Four members of the University of Providence women's volleyball team were awarded Academic All-Conference by the Frontier Conference on Tuesday.

Renae Davis, Averi Dyer, Cydney Finberg-Roberts and Ember Schwindt were all announced as members of the team by Frontier Conference commissioner Kent Paulson.

"I'm really proud of those four," head coach Arunas Duda said. "This award shows that these kids are very reliable and determined to continue to excel. That's what we're looking for."

To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in standing, maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled at the school for the previous two semesters. For Providence, 13 of their 19 rostered players were newcomers and were ineligible for the award.

"Given how many newcomers we have, to get four out of our six that were eligible is great," Duda said. "It just shows that we have strong kids in our program. They're driven, they're focused and we see it every day while we're traveling. I'm not surprised because I know all of the hard work they've put in to get this recognition. It's well-deserved."

Davis, a junior from Pleasant View, Utah, is a secondary education and health and physical education major. Davis recorded 337 assists, 239 digs and 107 kills on the season.

Dyer, a senior from Kalama, Washington, is an elementary education major who plans to teach in Kalama upon graduating in the spring. Dyer recorded 580 digs and 121 kills on the season. She was also named 1st Team All-Conference.

Finberg-Roberts, a junior from Columbia, Falls, Montana, is a secondary education and health and physical education major. She recorded 995 assists on the year, along with 35 kills and 28 blocks. She was also named the NAIA National Setter of the Week after her record-breaking 75 assists vs. Rocky Mountain in the regular season finale.

Schwindt, a junior from Thompson Falls, Montana, is a biology major. She recorded 189 kills and 83 blocks for the Argos this season.

All four players played all 33 games for the Argos this season.

"Being strong academically is really tied to your work ethic and your production and output," Duda said. "I think the two are tied together. That's one of our philosophies in recruiting. It's just something that we try to bring into our program. With these four, they have an extremely good work ethic. They're very dedicated to every aspect of their lives."
