GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After a successful start to the indoor season, the University of Providence track and field team will send a group of throwers to the Myrle Hanson Open in Spearfish, South Dakota on Saturday.
The Argos started the season two weekends ago at the Stacy Dragila Invitational in Pocatello, Idaho, where individuals
broke into the top 10 in four events. The team will look to build upon that success in South Dakota.
"I was very happy with how the team competed in Idaho," head coach
Tony Arntson said. "A couple of the younger kids had a chance to get their first competition under them and get the nerves out of them. Alan did a great job in the offseason preparing these guys. I think they got a great start. Now we'll focus on moving on."
In Idaho, the team faced off against primarily NCAA competition. In Spearfish, the team will compete against student-athletes from other NAIA programs, giving the team a chance to see where they're at against competition they'll likely face off against all season.
"It'll be a real competitive," Arntson said. "There will be a lot of smaller schools. You want to improve every week. Hopefully we've corrected one or two little things that we've done wrong. A lot of it is mental with the younger ones. It'll be a fun competition for them."
