GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's wrestling team was predicted to finish fourth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference in the U.S. Bank
conference preseason men's wrestling poll that was released Wednesday afternoon.
The Argos, who
finished 11th at the NAIA National Tournament last year, received a total of 101 points, 17 behind third-placed in-state rival Montana State-Northern. Menlo was picked to win the conference while Embry Riddle was picked second.
"I think they're pretty accurate," head coach
Steve Komac said. "Menlo had a great season last year. They have a lot of good quality kids in their program. And I think Embry-Riddle is going to be extremely competitive. Northern has a couple top-ranked guys in the country. We're excited with where we're at and are ready to get to work."
The Argos lost several key leaders including National Runner-Up,
Casey Dobson, All-Americans
Justin Harbison and
John Hensley, and captain
Shonn Roberts, but have some solid returners coming.
Jordan Komac,
Hayden Schrull and
Eli Walston look to be big pieces of the Argos this season after strong showings in the spring.
"We lost some very key players from our lineup last year," Komac said. "But we return a lot of sophomores that were big for us last year and I think they'll keep us very competitive. I think we'll be able to compete with anyone."
