GREAT FALLS, Mont. – In the
first national poll of the season, the University of Providence men's basketball team was ranked 14
th overall.
The Argos are the only Frontier Conference ranked in the poll. Former Frontier Conference school Lewis-Clark State is ranked 7
th. The Argos, who haven't played a game so far this season, were ranked 11
th in the preseason poll that came out before the season.
"It's pretty good for not having played a game," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We got some respect from people around the nation. We feel good about it."
The team is looking to build upon one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Argos, led by
All-American and
Frontier Conference Player of the Year Zaccheus Darko-Kelly, finished 24-8. The Argos were
awarded a four-seed in the NAIA National Tournament before
the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
"We talked today about we have to play every practice like it might be your last, because it might be," Keller said. "We've got some respect on our name. We need to work hard and earn it on the court."
The Argos returned to campus this week to begin practicing for the upcoming season. Their first game will be on the road against Montana Tech on Jan. 4. The first home game will be Jan. 9 against Carroll, although the Frontier Conference announced last week that they would
extend their no-fans policy for the foreseeable future.
