GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After recording his first career triple-double last week, the Frontier Conference announced that
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly has been named the Conference Player of the Week. This is the fourth time Darko-Kelly has received the award this season.
This was the first week that Darko-Kelly primarily played the point guard position. On Thursday night against Rocky Mountain College, Darko-Kelly scored 31 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. On Saturday against Montana Western, he recorded 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
"He did a little bit of everything," head coach
Steve Keller said. "That's why we won two games this week. He puts up those numbers but he's very unselfish. He just makes all of our guys better. He makes good decisions with the basketball and elevates everyone with his unselfish play."
Darko-Kelly leads the Frontier Conference in scoring, steals, blocks. He is second in assists, and third in rebounds and field goal percentage.
Nationally, Darko-Kelly ranked in the Top 10 in four statistical categories. He's fifth in total scoring (500 points), seventh in points per game (21.85), ninth in total assists (130) and tenth in assists per game (5.7). Keller believes his numbers will continue to improve as he continues getting reps at the point guard position.
"He's 6'6 with ball handling abilities like a guard," he said. "He can see over the top of people and make the unselfish play. He's obviously really hard to stop but he can find the open man just as easy. He's really special."
Darko-Kelly and the Argos have a tough road trip ahead of them as they prepare to take on the top team in the league, Lewis-Clark State, on Thursday in Lewiston.
