CORVALLIS, Ore. – Six players from the University of Providence men's soccer team were named to the Cascade Collegiate Conference U.S. Bank
Academic All-Conference Team.
George Almeida (business administration),
Gudmundur Gudmundsson (accounting),
Daniel Huseby (business administration/organizational leadership),
Cole Koenig (business administration),
Joel Samayoa (accounting) and
Matthew Wilkinson (exercise science) were all recognized by the conference.
"I'm extremely pleased that these guys had success in the classroom," interim head coach
Michael Rahn said. "They have made academics a priority and their work ethic will set them up nicely in the future."
To earn recognition as an All-CCC Academic honoree, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and at least a sophomore standing.
Rahn believes that having student-athletes excel in the classroom benefits not only the individual but the team as a whole.
"Having good student-athletes is vitally important for what we're trying to achieve," he said. "Our mission and our education are our priorities. We try to always provide our student-athletes with the tools they need to be successful in the classroom and these guys demonstrated that. It's a great honor and really helps our program."
The Argos (2-8-1, 2-6-1) will return to the field on Friday at 1:00 p.m., with a Senior Day game against Multnomah. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
