GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's basketball will take their first road trip of the season to Lewiston, Idaho this weekend for the Clearwater River Casino & Lodge Classic. The Argos (2-0) will play former Frontier Conference foe Lewis-Clark State on Friday and Corban on Saturday.
The squad is coming off
a pair of exhibition games against a semi-pro team, the Seattle Mountaineers. Made up of former collegiate basketball players from the Seattle metro area, the team provided a mix of athleticism and talent that the Argos hadn't seen so far on the year.
"They were great games for us," head coach
Steve Keller said. "It was good competition. They were big, athletic and experienced. They were two close games that put us in some good situations. They were great games for us going into this weekend."
The team has spent the week in practice fine-tuning certain areas as they prepare for the weekend. They've done some scouting on what their opponents will do and have focused on what the coaching staff believes will be the difference-maker: rebounding.
"We've been reviewing what we've been working on," Keller said. "We're just trying to get better. We've spent some time working on things that we know LC and Corban are going to do. One thing we work on daily is to make sure that we rebound."
Both teams are undefeated so far on the year. Lewis-Clark State has already played both the Mountaineers and Yellowstone Christian already, while Corban (2-0) took down Frontier Conference foe Rocky Mountain College earlier in the year.
"LC is one of the best teams in the country," Keller said. "They're always tough to play at home. Corban was picked in the top of their conference. They're legit. These are two very tough games on the road for us this weekend."
Despite the challenge, the team feels they're prepared to have a successful weekend.
"It's our first time on the road," Keller said. "You've got to be able to win on the road if you want to have any success in our league. We're going down with the idea that we're going to try and get a couple of wins this weekend."
