GREAT FALLS, Mont. – There was no let up for the University of Providence men's hockey team Friday night.
A night after
one of the most thrilling wins in program history, the Argos (4-2) raced past Weber State, defeating the Wildcats (12-3-1) 6-1 at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
"We responded well tonight," head coach
Jeff Heimel said. "We knew we played well yesterday. The challenge was to play a little bit more of a complete game tonight. I thought we did that. I think we had a few lapses, but it was by far the most complete game that we've played this season against a pretty good hockey team. I was encouraged by that."
Ty Alger and
Liam Carvalho both netted two goals for the Argos, while
Leo Felt and
Tyler McCarry each added one as well.
Levi Anderson led the team with two assists, while Alger, Carvalho, Felt,
Taylor McCall,
Cooper Page,
Tobias Robinson and
Jakob Stevenson all had one.
Tristan Lewis started in the net for the squad, recording 24 saves.
The difference-maker tonight was the Argo special teams, who converted on three power play goals and scored two more goals short-handed.
"Special teams was the highlight for us," Heimel said. "We managed the puck really well and that was something that we had struggled with. I thought that we took better care of the puck tonight. We worked hard and we worked a little bit smarter. I was proud of our decision making."
The Argos will complete the three-game homestand tomorrow with a home game against BYU. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
"We got a lot of hockey in a short amount of time," Heimel said. "We're trying to emphasize good rest, good nutrition, take care of our bodies. Tomorrow will be a grind but we'll be ready."
