WHITEFISH, Mont. – Three players received Player of the Week recognition from the Frontier Conference on Monday after sweeping Carroll in their double-header over the weekend.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week,
Sacha Legros was named the Defender of the Week and
Isaura Santos was named the Attacker of the Week.
"It's been quite an honor for these kids that have put in so much work," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "It makes you so proud as their coach to see them be recognized and knowing how hard they're working during the week. To see them get that recognition is just awesome. It's well-deserved and I'm proud of each and every one of them."
Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week for the 5
th time on the season; there has only been one week when she hasn't received the award. On
Friday's night five-setter, she recorded 55 assists, 18 digs, three kills and one block. She followed that up on Saturday with 52 assists and a season-high 20 digs. For the season, she is ranked third in the nation in assists per game with 11.6.
"We had so many hitting errors this weekend that those assist numbers could have been even higher," Duda said. "She moves the ball around so effectively and puts our hitters in really good situations. She does a lot of studying. She's watching film by the next day already. She comes in twice a week with the coaches. Her preparation has been tremendous this year. She's well-deserving."
Defensively, libero
Sacha Legros was everywhere this weekend. The coaching staff set up their blocking strategy to funnel as many balls to Legros as possible, and the move paid off. She recorded 40 digs during the win on Friday and 33 digs and five assists on Saturday.
"She was great," Duda said. "We definitely try and funnel a lot of balls her way. I think the block did a pretty good job of doing that. She was everywhere. She was solid from serve receive, from the service line, and her defense was outstanding. Even with the second ball she's putting up perfect balls to our hitters. She's just tremendous."
Santos, a junior transfer from Miami, Fla., stepped up big for the Argos this weekend. She led the teams in kills both nights, recording 22 kills on Friday and 23 digs on Saturday. She also played great outside of hitting, recording 14 digs on Friday and 13 digs and 3 aces on Saturday.
"We knew she had the ability, but it's the first time she's broken out this year," Duda said. "She's just one of those players that wants to get up there and swing high. That worked out really well for us. She's done a great job playing six rotations too. The more comfortable she is in the front row it seems like the more comfortable she is in the back row."
With Santos winning the award, the Argos have now had a total of five different players win Player of the Week honors.
Sadie Lott and
Renae Davis have also won the award this season.
"I think that's why we've been so successful this year," Duda said. "We can throw a lot of different things at you. We're not the biggest team, the tallest team, or the hardest hitting team or anything like that, but there's a lot of different ways we can attack you with our speed and quickness. I think it's so different than what a lot of different teams are used to that it's hard to catch up with. I'm pleased with the way things are coming together."
The Argos (10-2, 10-2) will look to continue their eight-game winning streak this weekend on the road against the top-seeded Rocky Mountain College (12-1, 11-1).
