GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Six student-athletes from the University of Providence men's soccer team were announced as 2022 Daktronics Scholar-Athletes.
Senior Joel Samoya, juniors Wade Jacobs and Kolby Hayes, and sophomores John Wilson, Mika Lankhof, and Vincent Stoppel were all honored for their academic success.
Samoya, a defenseman from Las Vegas, carried a 3.68 GPA (Grade Point Average) in Accounting & Criminal Justice. Hayes, a midfielder from Gillette, Wyo., is an Exercise Science major with a 3.68 GPA. Jacobs is from Sheridan, Wyo., and carries a 3.57 GPA in Computer Science.
Lankhof, from Hellevoetsluis-Zuid, Holland, is a Business major. The midfielder has a grade point average of 3.80. Stoppel, a native of Braunschweig, Germany has a 3.90 in Business Administration. Wilson, a defenseman from Everett, Wash., is a Criminal Justice major with a GPA of 3.70.
This Fall, the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete programs recognizes men's soccer players from 170 institutions. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.
