KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A day after winning the Frontier Conference Player of the Week award, University of Providence women's basketball player Parker Esary was named the NAIA National Player of the Week, the NAIA announced on Tuesday.

The award comes after a historic performance from the senior in Thursday's thrilling 92-92 double-overtime game in the regular season finale. Esary poured in a career-high 39 points on 13-of-15 shooting and 13-of-16 from the free throw line, including a pair of game-winning free throws with one second remaining. The win over the #7 Fighting Saints (23-6, 11-4) earned the #19 Argos (15-5, 12-3) a share of the program's first regular season championship since the 1980-81 season.

"I'm super excited for her," head coach Bill Himmelberg said. "It's not something that happens very often. There's tough competition all over the country so for her to get that award is special. You have to do something pretty special to get it so obviously we're pleased. It's a big thing nationally. It's great that she's getting that recognition at the top-level."

The award adds to the plethora of awards and milestones that Esary has reached this season. She became a member of the 2,000 point club on Jan. 29 and is 29 points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer. She also passed another major milestone on Thursday, becoming the all-time leading rebounder in the program, passing Lindsey Abramson. When the All-American awards come out following the season, Esary is likely to be a rare five-time All-American.

"All this stuff is just fluff for her," Himmelberg said. "She wants to win basketball games. She wants to win and she wants to try and win a championship. That's what she came here for and that's been her goal the whole time. She doesn't ever look at the stats. She just cares about the win/loss column. That's been her focus always."

Esary and the team will shift their focus to the postseason as the Frontier Conference women's basketball postseason tournament kicks off this week. The Argos earned a #2 seed in the conference seeding and will receive a bye in the opening round. They will play the highest remaining seed of the two opening round winners on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
