GREAT FALLS, Mont. - – The University of Providence strength and conditioning department announced that
Ivy Navarro and
Cassidee Whitehead has been named the January Student-Athlete of the Month.
Navarro, a senior on the Argo women's wrestling team, is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at the 101 lb. weight class. She will compete at the Grand View Open on Saturday for the team.
"Ivy is an elite athlete that has no ceiling," strength and conditioning coach
Will Seevers said. "She is pound for pound the strongest athlete, male or female, that we have at the University of Providence. Her work ethic and discipline set her apart from all others. Ivy has a profound impact on not only her teammates but on every other athlete on campus. She motivates and inspires individuals on a daily basis and has a very bright future ahead."
Whitehead, a senior on the women's soccer team, has been instrumental in leading the team in the weight room during the offseason.
"Cassidee embodies the athlete of the month award on a daily basis," Seevers said. "She is always pushing herself beyond her comfort zone and goes above and beyond the expectations of team lifts and puts in extra work on her days off. Cassidee is intrinsically motivated and committed to the weight room. She understands that results are achieved through sacrifice and progression."
The Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Month is awarded by the strength and conditioning staff to an athlete who
embodies the three core values of the the Argo Strength and Conditioning Philosophy: strength of discipline, strength of spirit and strength of unity.
